Three… Extremes
     >three very different countries, different styles, different types of horror

Dumplings, directed by Fruit Chan (Hong Kong)
     >the most realistic of the three, per se, it thrives on psychotic and sick type of horror that was magnified but the realistic attack of Chan and the actors. Talk about eating a dead baby to be younger.

Cut, directed by Park Chan-wook (South Korea)
     >the weirdest and quirkiest of all. It’s like SAW on psychedelic drugs. This one makes no sense to me - being punished for being good then throwing in some “supposed to be funny” moments.

Box, directed by Takashi Miike (Japan)
     >the most complicated of the three. This one revolves around the idea of a dream. This one makes no sense to me as well because I can’t understand it and I don’t want to even try. It’s very mellow and has the least gore and hardcore scare.

Over-all these shorts are quite cool, but for an avid horror fan like myself it’s really nothing new.

Not Another Mental Institute Movie T.T

It’s been a while since my last review..and I decided to go back to it - upset.

So I watched this movie called The Ward. I’ve heard of it before and I never had any plans on watching it ‘cause everybody’s saying that it’s bad, but a friend of mine lend me a copy of the film so I thought that I might as well check it out for myself and see if it’s really bad.

It’s not really bad.

IT”S FUCKING BAD!

One, the characters are shallow, they were just there in the story, no growth or even a meaningful background or strong characterizations. Very vague characters.

Two, the whole story is cheesy and bland and there was not a single scary moment in the film, not even a slight surprise or whatever. The story’s as shallow as the characters.

Three, it was just weak all over - the effects, the story, the actors, the build-up, the look, the everything!

I’m a huge fan of horror flicks - I watch them while eating my dinner, and so I don’t get pleased easily, but even if I’m the kind of chick that gets scared easily for some stupid reason I think I would still hate this film.

Giving it a 0.5 out of 5

El Orfanato 2007 - another beautiful horror flick not relying on gore

I love Guillermo del Toro and he led me to this film. He didn’t directed it, he was a producer, but I still couldn’t help but find some of himself in the movie.

It is a beautiful piece of horror movie that doesn’t rely on gore, heavy special effects and that shit, it relies on story-telling and building up an eerie atmosphere.

I love gory horror-flicks, but well-crafted, “quiet” horror movies like The Orphanage is a breather. (PS. I actually had a few shocks when I was watching this movie)

It reminded me of The Others for some reason.

It’s a beautiful watch.

Will now prepare myself an apple-banana-honey oatmeal then watch Eraserhead (1977). Alone. In a dark room. Exciting!

Insidious = goosebumps

I think my problem is that I expected too much from this movie..especially when I saw the opening credits roll and learned that Leigh Whannell wrote this…uh, he’s just like the guy who started the SAW franchise??? Hello!!

The thing is, the movie was amazing. I’d just like to think that from watching lots of scary shit that I’m already almost immune to them stuffs. Well I said that because I wasn’t entirely scared of the movie.

Insidious is eerie. And for people who loves horror films and gets scared easy..well you’ll get scared easy. But don’t get me wrong, there was a lot of scenes wherein I was breathing heavily and wherein all the hair on my body are on end. Like real goosebumps that makes you a little teary in the eye. It’s not a scream-fest that’s what I’m saying I guess.

But as I said, the movie was eerie, but the thing is, Paranormal Activity (same producers) was eerie-er. I think it’s because Paranormal Activity looked real and Insidious looked like a movie most of the time if you know what I mean.

Oh, what ever. It’s still a good watch.

Oh! And what the fuck is with that ending!! God!! Leigh Whannell is such an ass that he likes giving us that last open-mouthed look of shock and “This is not happening” feeling. Creepy ending, man!
